BP Reconsiders Dumping Permit After Public Outcry

Law360, New York (August 17, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- After numerous protests from environmental groups and politicians, BP Plc and regulators in Indiana agreed on Wednesday to reconsider a permit that would have allowed the oil company to increase the amount of waste products it dumps into Lake Michigan.

At a meeting in the Chicago office of the Environmental Protection Agency, a BP official said it would review suggestions from Chicago mayor Richard Daley, the EPA and various environmental groups on ways to reduce pollution coming from a refinery in Whiting, Indiana.
