Judge Gives Go-Ahead To Con Ed Steam Pipe Tests

Law360, New York (August 17, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A New York judge has given power giant Consolidated Edison Co. the green light to test a steam trap at the site of last month's pipe explosion in midtown Manhattan, rejecting arguments by blast victims that tests could destroy evidence central to their negligence case.

Brooklyn State Supreme Court Justice Bruce Balter also dismissed calls for a neutral third-party monitor to oversee the pipe operator's investigation of the July 18 explosion near Grand Central Terminal.
