Appleton Ducks Sharing $700M Superfund Cleanup Tab

Law360, New York (April 10, 2012, 7:03 PM EDT) -- A Wisconsin federal judge on Tuesday dismissed Appleton Papers Inc. from a federal government suit over $700 million in environmental damage at the Lower Fox River Superfund site, finding Appleton had no direct liability under a purchase agreement with the previous owner.

U.S. District Judge William C. Griesbach granted Appleton's motion for reconsideration of a ruling that Appleton was directly liable under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, granting summary judgment to the paper company and dismissing all claims against it.
