Sierra Club Hammers Out Deal With Ga. Coal Plant Developer

Law360, New York (April 11, 2012, 7:33 PM EDT) -- A coalition of environmental groups will drop its challenge to construction of a coal-fired power plant in Georgia, in exchange for an energy consortium's cancellation of a second plant and $5 million investment in energy efficiency and renewable projects, the groups said Tuesday.

The dispute pitted energy consortium Power4Georgians against the Sierra Club, the Fall Line Alliance for a Clean Environment, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and the Ogeechee Riverkeeper. The environmental groups had sought to block approval of Plant Washington — a proposed coal...
