Lawyers Antsy As PTO Publishes New Rules

Law360 (August 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published a set of highly-anticipated rules Tuesday that it says will reduce record waiting times and an enormous backlog of pending patents, but which also has IP attorneys on edge.

Under the new rules, which will go into effect on Nov. 1, patent applicants will be able to file only two new continuing applications and one request for continued examination unless they can demonstrate why the additional information in question was not previously submitted.
