CMS Settles With Hospital Chains Over Low Medicare Payments

Law360, New York (April 12, 2012, 6:06 PM EDT) -- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has signed three settlements covering hundreds of hospitals to resolve lawsuits alleging underpayments by Medicare, an agency representative said Thursday.

HCA Holdings Inc., the nation’s largest for-profit hospital operator, said it would receive $271 million under the deal, and Tenet Healthcare Corp., the country’s third-largest hospital chain, announced it would get $84 million.
