Top NY Lawmakers Gird For Battle Over Minimum Wage Hike

Law360, New York (April 13, 2012, 2:35 PM EDT) -- New York Democrats are planning high-profile meetings in their legislative push to bump the state's minimum wage to $8.50 per hour — higher than the $7.25-per-hour federal minimum — but state Republicans told Law360 on Friday that they're unlikely to go along.

Signaling their bill will be a major focus this spring, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Assemblyman Keith Wright, chairman of the Assembly's Labor Committee, said Thursday they will hold public meetings in April and May in Manhattan, Syracuse and Buffalo.
