Public Health Co. Reveals Data Breach Affecting Thousands

Law360, New York (April 13, 2012, 7:22 PM EDT) -- Florida-based Memorial Healthcare System has fired two employees who could face criminal charges for inappropriately accessing confidential details on about 9,500 patients to file phony tax returns, a spokeswoman for the hospital network said Friday.

The two employees might have accessed patients' names, birth dates, and Social Security numbers in 2011 and earlier this year, though no medical records were taken, according to MHS, which touts itself as the fifth-largest public health care system in the country.
