Salazar, Panel Blast Congress Over Drilling Safety

Law360, New York (April 17, 2012, 4:49 PM EDT) -- Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said Tuesday it was inexcusable that Congress did not do more to improve drilling safety after the Deepwater Horizon disaster, agreeing with the main criticism in a follow-up report by a former presidential panel on the spill.

In a report issued Tuesday, the Deepwater Horizon panel praised the DOI and industry for making encouraging progress on adopting recommendations to improve environmental protections, but it gave Congress a "D" for its lack of action.
