JPML Consolidates Zoloft Birth Defect Suits In Pa.

Law360, New York (April 17, 2012, 4:58 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation on Tuesday ordered the consolidation in Pennsylvania of up to 100 lawsuits claiming the prenatal use of Pfizer Inc.'s antidepressant Zoloft causes birth defects.

Of the suits, 57 are pending across seven districts and were specifically transferred to the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The panel noted the existence of 35 additional suits making similar claims, which would potentially be treated as tagalong cases when and if they came before the panel, the JPML's order said.
