Southwest Coupon Suit Beyond Redemption, Judge Says

Law360, New York (April 17, 2012, 8:30 PM EDT) -- An Alabama federal judge on Tuesday tossed a proposed class action claiming Southwest Airlines Co. Inc. breached a contract by refusing to honor free drink coupons that bear no expiration date, ruling the plaintiff had failed to state a claim.

Southwest unilaterally decided in August to stop honoring coupons already issued to Rapid Rewards program members, even though no terms of the coupon program allowed the airline to revoke coupons delivered to and accepted by program members, according to plaintiff Charles Grimsley.
