Unions Back UMG's $2B EMI Buy Amid Antitrust Scrutiny

Law360, New York (April 18, 2012, 9:03 PM EDT) -- Universal Music Group on Wednesday received the backing of two artists unions in its proposed $1.9 billion acquisition of the recorded music unit of EMI Group Ltd., in the face of antitrust scrutiny from U.S. and European regulators.

The unions' support for Vivendi SA's Universal comes as Sony Corp. got the blessing of the European Commission in its $2.2 billion bid to snatch up EMI's music publishing arm, according to the Financial Times.
