News Corp. Unit Smacked With 46 New Phone-Hacking Suits

Law360, New York (April 20, 2012, 6:20 PM EDT) -- News Corp.'s U.K. subsidiary News International was hit with 46 new lawsuits from alleged victims of the newspaper’s phone-hacking scandal, a lawyer for some of the victims confirmed to Law360 on Friday.

Attorney Hugh Tomlinson of Matrix Chambers told a judge Friday morning that London's Metropolitan Police had identified 1,174 potential victims in its investigation of Rupert Murdoch’s empire. He also said the new suits include "a whole series of allegations" that go further than phone hacking, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
