US, NJ Sue Hess Over Refinery Emissions Violations

Law360, New York (April 20, 2012, 6:17 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice and the New Jersey attorney general on Thursday sued Hess Corp. over alleged emissions violations at a Port Reading, N.J., petroleum refinery, though officials say they expect a settlement in the case soon.

The civil complaint brought under the Clean Air Act and New Jersey Air Pollution Control Act accuses Hess of permitting emissions violations connected to the modification of refinery equipment, excess emissions from a sulfur recovery plant and compliance failures in the handling of benzene waste, among other allegations....
