SEC Wants Ex-TPG Associate's Insider Trading Fine Upheld

Law360, New York (April 20, 2012, 8:12 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday urged the Ninth Circuit to affirm a lower court's $112,000 judgment against a former TPG Capital LP associate for providing inside tips on planned acquisitions to a group of investors.

In its brief, the SEC shoots down Vinayak Gowrish's contentions that the jury was misled and that his cross-examination of a witness was cut short. The commission also asserts that the court did not abuse its discretion in applying the fines or deny Gowrish his due process rights....
