Starwood Battles Contractor Over Foundering Gulf Condos

Law360, New York (April 23, 2012, 4:51 PM EDT) -- Starwood Capital Group Global LLC told a Florida federal judge on Friday that it should not have to pay $18 million claimed by a general contractor that worked on a troubled luxury condominium project on the Gulf Coast.

In a lawsuit brought by Walton Construction Co. LLC, the private investment firm filed a motion for summary judgment arguing that it had no contract with the construction firm and that Starwood itself lost "100 percent" of its investment in the Laketown Wharf condominium development.
