Illinois High Court Extinguishes “Light” Suit

Law360, New York (August 23, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a potential blow to “light” cigarette smokers nationwide, the Illinois Supreme Court has rejected a request by a group of the state's residents to revive their product liability case against Philip Morris USA over its alleged deceptive marketing practices.

On Wednesday, the Illinois Supreme Court put a stop to the plaintiffs' attempts to reopen a previous case against the tobacco giant, granting Philip Morris' request for a supervisory order by a vote of 4-2.
