OFT Clears BSkyB, Amstrad Deal

Law360, New York (August 24, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A U.K. regulator has cleared the takeover of electronics maker Amstrad PLC by British broadcasting giant British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC, after determining that the merger would not hinder competition.

The U.K. Office of Fair Trading gave the green light to the deal on Friday, just two weeks after deciding to take a closer look at the £125 million merger.

In approving the takeover, the OFT said that the deal would not violate the 2002 Enterprise Act, which regulates market competition.
