Shrimp Trade Group Calls BP Settlement Biased

Law360, New York (April 23, 2012, 6:05 PM EDT) -- The American Shrimp Processors Association urged a Louisiana federal judge on Monday to refuse preliminary approval of the proposed settlement in multidistrict litigation over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, arguing it unfairly discriminated against shrimp docks and processors.

In a court filing, the ASPA asked U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier not to approve the agreement until it was able to negotiate greater compensation for its members, who the group said stood to recover far less than other shrimping industry businesses.
