Halliburton Lashes Out Against Deepwater MDL Settlement

Law360, New York (April 25, 2012, 3:17 PM EDT) -- Halliburton Energy Services Inc. blasted the proposed settlement between BP PLC and plaintiffs' lawyers in multidistrict litigation over the Macondo oil spill Tuesday, arguing it would hold Halliburton liable for unproven damages and interfere with its ability to settle claims.

In a filing in Louisiana federal court, Halliburton says the proposed settlement suffers from “multitude of deficiencies” and urges the judge handling the sprawling case to delay approval of the agreement until the company's objections can be addressed.
