Fed. Circ. Nixes ZapMedia's ITunes Patent Suit Against Apple

Law360, New York (April 25, 2012, 4:22 PM EDT) -- The Federal Circuit on Wednesday said Apple Inc.'s iTunes product hadn't infringed a ZapMedia Services Inc. patent for music distribution software, rejecting arguments that the lower judge had defined the patent too narrowly.

The appeals court affirmed a Texas federal judge's decision that ZapMedia's patent covered only software that worked exclusively with authorized music devices, such as a computer or iPod that has been preregistered with Apple.
