Chemical Co. Falsely Labels Illicit Substances, W.Va. Says

Law360, New York (April 30, 2012, 4:59 PM EDT) -- West Virginia's attorney general on Monday accused a chemical manufacturer of falsely labeling and marketing its synthetic substances as safe and legal when they actually endanger consumers and violate state law by imitating the effects of banned drugs like marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy.

Lodging a suit in West Virginia state court, Attorney General Darrell V. McGraw Jr. said Georgia-based Nutragenomics Manufacturing LLC gives its products deceptive “innocent-sounding” labels like bath salts and plant food when they are actually used to make synthetic designer drugs, according to...
