Ill. High Court To Allow Judges To Participate In Plea Talks

Law360, New York (April 30, 2012, 6:46 PM EDT) -- The Illinois Supreme Court on Thursday amended a court rule to allow trial judges to participate in plea negotiations, a change that will go into effect on July 1.

Though judges may not initiate the plea discussions, they may now be brought into the negotiations at the request of the defendant and agreement from the prosecutor, the new rule says.
