$4B Hydrogen Project Owner Seeks Go-Ahead For Plans

Law360, New York (May 3, 2012, 4:07 PM EDT) -- The company behind a $4 billion, 300-megawatt hydrogen power plant project in Kern County, Calif., on Wednesday asked state regulators to greenlight plans for construction and operation at the site.

If approved, the Hydrogen Energy California, or HECA, project would manufacture hydrogen to generate low-carbon electricity and produce low-carbon, nitrogen-based fertilizer. More than 90 percent of carbon dioxide released at the plant would be captured and used to recover oil in a nearby oil field, combining existing technologies in a first-of-its-kind multipurpose facility.
