NY Bill Would Ban Credit Card Surcharges At Gas Stations

Law360, New York (May 3, 2012, 5:21 PM EDT) -- New York lawmakers drafted a bill Wednesday to ban gas stations from charging motorists up to $5 per gallon extra to fill up with credit cards instead of cash, introducing the stiffest legislation yet targeting the practice amid increasing customer outrage.

Sponsored in both houses of the state Legislature by two Long Island lawmakers, Republican Sen. Kenneth P. LaValle and Independent Assemblyman Fred Thiele Jr., the measure would end stations' ability to "finagle with the law" that was supposed to ban such price switches, according to...
