ITC To Revisit Invalidity Ruling On Rambus Chip Patents

Law360, New York (May 3, 2012, 9:56 PM EDT) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission will review an administrative law judge’s decision that found five semiconductor chip patents owned by Rambus Inc. were invalid, it announced Thursday.

The March 2 initial determination ruled that though chip manufacturers LSI Corp. and STMicroelectronics Inc. did literally infringe Rambus’ patented chip technology, the fact that the patents were not valid relieved the respondents of potential violations of Section 337 of the Tariff Act.

The commission’s investigative staff urged it last month to revisit the ruling.
