South Texas DA Charged With Bribery Scheme

Law360, New York (May 7, 2012, 8:26 PM EDT) -- A South Texas district attorney and congressional candidate was arrested Monday and charged with accepting bribes and kickbacks in return for favorable treatment from prosecutors.

A Texas grand jury charged Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos and alleged co-conspirator Eduardo Lucio, an attorney and Villalobos' former law partner, with fraud and racketeering for allegedly arranging and accepting bribes totaling more than $100,000.

Both men were arrested Monday and released on $50,000 bond.
