Panel OKs Calif. Bill For CPUC To Review US Safety Guidance

Law360, San Diego (May 15, 2012, 4:51 PM EDT) -- A bill requiring the California Public Utilities Commission to consider safety recommendations by a federal transportation agency in order to prevent incidents like the fatal 2010 gas pipeline explosion in San Bruno cleared a state Senate panel on Tuesday.

The Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee voted 10-0 to pass through A.B. 578, introduced by Assemblyman Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, that directs the CPUC to answer within 90 days whether natural gas pipeline safety recommendations adopted by the National Transportation Safety Board are appropriate for California...
