Bill Banning Chemical In Baby Toys Heads To Governor

Law360, New York (September 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- California lawmakers on Tuesday introduced the first legislation in the United States that would ban a controversial chemical in plastic baby toys that may cause liver diseases, mental disabilities and other deleterious effects.

The bill, which bans certain phthalates in toys and child-care products for children younger than 3 years old, was approved by the California Senate and must now be signed off on by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
