SEC Asks Court To Press For Foreign Witnesses

Law360, New York (September 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has asked a federal court to persuade British and Canadian jurisdictions to enforce subpoenas on several purportedly crucial witnesses to the SEC's insider-trading action against the purchasers of Vancouver-based mining company Placer Dome Inc.

The SEC moved on Aug. 20 for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to send letters of request to judicial authorities in Canada, London and the Isle of Man asking them to compel disclosure of requested documents and testimony under oath...
