Microsoft To Launch "IP Ventures" Licensing Program

Law360 (May 4, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Microsoft Corp. is launching a new licensing program to mine its growing patent portfolio more aggressively and to position the company better as it faces an onslaught of patent infringement lawsuits, according to a published report.

The new program, called IP Ventures, is part of an effort to increase Microsoft’s revenues from patent licensing and to exploit the software maker’s patent portfolio both for commercial purposes and as a defense tactic against legal challenges, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.
