District Court Dismisses Lawsuit Over Blackberry Patent

Law360 (May 6, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A U.S. district court has granted patent holding company NTP its motion to dismiss a lawsuit by wireless-equipment company Computer Leasco, which had claimed that it was the rightful owner of a patent at the center of NTP’s lawsuit against BlackBerry maker Research in Motion.

The court attributed the dismissal to "a failure to state a claim upon which relief could be granted" and a lack of personal jurisdiction for defendants Donald Stout and the estate of NTP co-founder Thomas Campana.
