Enviros Challenge Shell's Arctic Drilling Permit In 9th Circ.

Law360, New York (May 17, 2012, 5:46 PM EDT) -- Arguing that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency underestimated air pollution estimates, a coalition of environmental groups on Wednesday asked the Ninth Circuit to review an emissions permit allowing Shell Offshore Inc. to begin an exploratory oil drilling project off the north coast of Alaska.

After the EPA initially approved the permit in October, the groups lodged an ultimately unsuccessful challenge with the federal Environmental Appeals Board. The final permit approval was granted in April, forcing the group to pursue another challenge in the Ninth Circuit....
