Ex-DOE Director Sent $1.3M In Contracts To Wife, US Says

Law360, New York (May 17, 2012, 7:03 PM EDT) -- A former U.S. Department of Energy director who allegedly funneled $1.3 million of contract money to his wife under the auspices of funding a scientific review journal for the agency has been indicted in Maryland federal court, prosecutors said Thursday.

Michael Strayer and Karen Earle have been indicted on a total of 13 criminal counts related to an alleged conspiracy in which Strayer persuaded his employer to pay Earle for journal content that Strayer was in fact obtaining for free, while concealing his involvement in the...
