San Diego Diocese Pays $198M To Settle Abuse Cases

Law360, New York (September 7, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego has reportedly agreed to pay over $198 million to 144 alleged victims of sexual abuse by priests employed by the diocese, bringing it one step closer to emergence from Chapter 11.

The San Diego's Diocese filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February, staying all litigation arouned the alleged abuse. The diocese offered a smaller settlement of $98 million at the end of March, stirring the ire of attorneys representing the alleged victims, who said the amount was too little....
