Microsoft, Toshiba Pen Patent Deal On PCs, Consumer Electronics

Law360, New York (May 13, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Microsoft Corp. and Japanese electronics maker Toshiba Corp. have penned a comprehensive patent-sharing agreement covering digital electronics products and personal computers, the two companies confirmed.

“We have signed a cross-licensing contract with Microsoft in information-processing systems, namely image-processing and computer areas,” a Toshiba spokesman said.

Few details were available, but the companies said they intend to take advantage of the pact for accelerating the development of flat-screen televisions, DVD recorders and players, personal computers and other digital consumer electronics to survive intensifying competition in the industry,...
