Ill. Senate Approves Bill Outlining Tax Benefits For Hospitals

Law360, New York (May 30, 2012, 1:42 PM EDT) -- Illinois hospitals on Tuesday praised passage of state legislation for establishing clear guidelines for the types and amounts of charity care to provide in order to qualify for tax benefits.

The bill was part of a sweeping Medicaid overhaul many health care providers vigorously denounced after it was unveiled last month, but ultimately endorsed following the give-and-take of behind-the-scenes legislative sausage-making.

Under the new framework, relatively unambiguous standards are outlined by which providers can have their tax burdens reduced.
