Yoga Guru Settles Copyright Case

Law360, New York (May 16, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Indian yoga guru Bikram Choudhury has settled a lawsuit brought by a coalition of yoga studios that challenged his right to copyright his widely practiced techniques.

Open Source Yogan Unity, a group of yoga instructors, had sought a declaratory judgment in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California that Choudhury does not have valid copyright or trademark rights in the series of yoga exercises he has compiled under the name “Bikram yoga.”
