Title VII Doesn't Protect Breast Pumping, 5th Circ. Hears

Law360, New York (May 31, 2012, 6:38 PM EDT) -- A debt collector asked the Fifth Circuit on Wednesday not to revive the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's claims that it illegally fired an employee because she asked to pump breast milk at the office, saying breast pump discrimination isn't prohibited by Title VII.

The EEOC is appealing a summary judgment decision in favor of Houston Funding II Ltd. in which a Texas federal judge held that even if the agency could prove the company had fired Donnicia Venters because she sought permission to pump breast...
