NJ Senate OKs Bill Restricting Employer Credit Checks

Law360, New York (June 1, 2012, 6:50 PM EDT) -- The New Jersey Senate on Thursday passed a measure that would generally bar employers from requiring a credit check for job candidates and current workers.

Proponents of the bill — which also bans employment discrimination against a current or potential employee based on information in a credit report — say it would help out-of-work victims of the recession who may face an uphill battle in securing a new job because of financial problems.
