Costco Pays $3.6M To Settle Calif. Improper Storage Claims

Law360, New York (June 4, 2012, 8:25 PM EDT) -- Costco Wholesale Corp. has settled allegations that it improperly disposed of and stored hazardous and pharmaceutical materials in its stores across California, paying $3.6 million, the Alameda and Sacramento County district attorney’s offices said Monday.

Twenty-nine district attorneys in California had filed suit in Alameda Superior Court alleging the retail giant violated the state’s laws for safe storage, handling and disposal of pharmaceutical and other hazardous waste.

Alameda County Superior Court Judge Winifred Smith signed off on the settlement Friday.
