Shell Sues Enviros To Stave Off Alaska Drilling Threats

Law360, New York (June 5, 2012, 6:30 PM EDT) -- Two Royal Dutch Shell PLC subsidiaries on Monday sought to protect their federal exploration authorizations from potential challenges by groups including Greenpeace Inc., who oppose the multibillion-dollar exploration activities in the Chukchi Sea and Beaufort Sea off the Alaska coast.

In a complaint filed in Alaska federal court, Shell Gulf of Mexico Inc. and Shell Offshore Inc. sought a declaration that authorization letters issued by the U.S. Department of the Interior's Fish and Wildlife Service were still valid, saying Shell had invested more than $2 billion...
