FTC's Ramirez Cites Worries On Brazil, China Antitrust Regimes

Law360, Chicago (June 7, 2012, 10:31 PM EDT) -- Brazil's new competition law could put the brakes on procompetitive merger reviews, and while China's antitrust regulator has made great strides, that country remains slow to approve simple deals, a Federal Trade Commission commissioner said Thursday.

The FTC's Edith Ramirez applauded the progress that China's young competition regulator has made so far, and expressed hope that new legislation would help modernize Brazil's regime, but she warned that understaffing and other issues may contribute to delays in both regimes.
