EC Orders Car Makers To Provide Technical Info

Law360, New York (September 14, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Four of the world's largest car makers must now turn over technical information to independent garages in the European Union, after the European Commission ruled that withholding the information constituted a violation of competition law.

The Commission said on Friday that DaimlerChrysler, Toyota, General Motors and Fiat must offer technical specifics to independent auto mechanics in order to ensure that agreements between the car makers and their sponsored repairers do not eliminate competition in the market.
