Buchanan Ingersoll Acquires IP Boutique Burns Doane

Law360 (May 25, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- With the acquisition of Virginia-based IP powerhouse Burns, Doane, Swecker & Mathis by legal behemoth Buchanan Ingersoll, yet another IP boutique has thrown in the towel in a legal market increasingly dominated by large general-practice firms.

The acquisition marks another chapter in the gradual rise of general-practice firms to dominance in the IP landscape. Since 2002, New York's Pennie & Edmonds and Fish & Neave and California's Lyon & Lyon have also been acquired by general-practice firms.
