Judge Tosses Guatemalans' STD Suit Against US

Law360, New York (June 13, 2012, 10:55 PM EDT) -- A Washington federal judge tossed a suit filed by a proposed class of Guatemalans infected with sexually transmitted diseases including syphilis during a 1940s health program accusing the U.S. of violating the human rights of unwitting participants, according to Wednesday news reports.

U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton found that federal law prevents such claims against the U.S. for injuries suffered in a foreign country as it granted the U.S. government’s bid to toss the suit, the AP reported.
