Chesapeake Deal Lets NY Landowners Rework Fracking Leases

Law360, New York (June 14, 2012, 5:38 PM EDT) -- Chesapeake Appalachia LLC reached an agreement with the New York state government Thursday allowing more than 4,400 landowners in the state to seek more favorable terms for existing natural gas drilling leases from rival companies.

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced the deal, which permits landowners who had their leases extended because of the state's Department of Environmental Conservation's review of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, to negotiate leases with other companies in order to receive better financial or environmental terms.
