Medicare Overpaid $209M For Diabetes Test Supplies: Report

Law360, New York (June 15, 2012, 7:24 PM EDT) -- Four Medicare contractors improperly paid medical equipment suppliers $209 million for home blood-glucose test strips and lancets for diabetic patients in 2007, according to a report released Friday by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' internal watchdog.

The four contractors — WellPoint unit National Government Services Inc., CIGNA Government Services LLC, Hewlett-Packard Co. unit NHIC Corp. and Noridian Administrative Services LLC — improperly allowed for payment totaling approximately $271 million in claims identified as high-utilization claims, a class for claims exceeding Medicare guidelines, for...
