LED Companies Resolve Patent Dispute

Law360, New York (September 17, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Technology companies Nichia Corp. and Cree Inc. announced a deal on Tuesday that will settle an outstanding patent infringement dispute and expand their cross-licensing arrangements to include more patents related to white-light-emitting diode technology and nitride lasers.

The agreement resolves any patent infringement claims LED-maker Nichia had against COTCO Luminant Device Ltd., which was acquired by Cree in March 2007. Japan-based Nichia had claimed patent infringement involving LED products sold by a COTCO subsidiary.
