Monsanto Targets DuPont Over Seed Selection Tech IP

Law360, New York (June 19, 2012, 7:58 PM EDT) -- Monsanto Co. on Monday in Missouri federal court accused rival DuPont Co. and its hybrid agricultural seed producing unit Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc. of infringing its patents covering seed development technology to help improve the genetic quality of its seeds.

In its complaint, Monsanto claims that DuPont’s seed selection technology copies its own so-called seed-chipping technology, which allows seeds to be genetically tested before they are planted in order to cultivate those with the most desired traits, such as herbicide tolerance and pest resistance.
